Hi, I’m Pastor Mark Werner. I grew up in Warren, MI. I attended Concordia University Ann Arbor, MI and graduated in 1987 with a BA in secondary education. I taught and worked with youth ministry in Lutheran Congregations and Schools. I served congregations at St. Mark’s Lutheran Yonkers, NY; St. Paul Lutheran Royal Oak, MI; Peace Lutheran Shelby Twp, MI; St. John Lutheran Ellisville, MO; and St. Peter Lutheran in St. Johns, MI.
I have a Masters degree in Theology majoring in Christian Education/Youth Ministry from Huntington University, IN. After serving congregations for 23 years as a teacher and youth minster I entered Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, IN. I served my Vicarage here at Good Shepherd Lutheran and was Ordained as Pastor here on August 8, 2014.
As a student at Concordia Ann Arbor I met Cindy. We were married May 24, 1986. We are blessed with 7 children – Abigail [married to Steve], Nathan [married to Jenny], Zachary, Leah, Joel, Elijah, and Michaela. Abi and Steve have our first grandchild, Judah Mark Schmit.
I love spending time with my family. I enjoy sports, especially baseball [Go Detroit Tigers!]. I love all kinds of music – Contemporary Christian, Classic Rock, Pop, Classical. I enjoy playing the drums. I like to tinker. I work on cars, house projects, etc. – sometimes I can say “I like” to do those things, sometimes it is out of necessity. I enjoy surfing…. the internet, and working on computer while taking in a TV show [often comedies].
